The Supreme Court Slams Ekta Kapoor On Her Web Series “XXX”; Says The Show Is Polluting The Minds Of Young People.

Ekta Kapoor was harshly criticised by the Supreme Court for producing XXX, an erotic web series, on her OTT platform ALTBalaji. Here’s what the judges said to the producer.

The Supreme Court slammed Ekta Kapoor’s web series XXX on Friday after it was found that the content in it was objectionable.

In an opinion statement by Justices Ajay Rastogi and C.T. Ravikumar, the court said: “We need to do something about this. You are polluting the minds of the young generations of this country….”. In addition, the bench noted that the OTT content was readily available to all and questioned her counsel as to what options would be provided to the people regarding their choice of content.

There are chances that the matter will be taken up soon in the Patna High Court, and so the bench made these observations after Kapoor’s senior advocate, Mukul Rohatgi, argued that a plea has been filed before the court but chances are slim that it will be taken up soon. The bench then commented, “It pollutes the minds of young people.”

The apex court had previously granted protection to Kapoor in a similar matter, Rohatgi argued, and he added that there is independence in the country and there is freedom of choice. Also, he added that content is paid for through subscriptions.

In a brief ruling, the bench said it did not appreciate that questions are being raised every time the apex court is asked to hear a petition. It also stated that the cost for filing a petition of this kind would be imposed on the petitioner. The bench asked Rohatgi to convey this message to his client, emphasizing that the apex court exists for those who do not have a voice.

In this case, the top court was hearing a protest by Kapoor against arrest warrants that were being issued against her for allegedly insulting soldiers in the web series on her OTT platform ALTBalaji and hurting the sentiments of soldiers and their families.

Observing their views on the order, the bench says: “We have seen the order and have received our reservations.” Further, the apex court has also kept the matter pending before it and has recommended that a local lawyer should be engaged to keep the court informed about the status of the hearing.

Earlier this month, a court in Bihar’s Begusarai had issued a warrant for Shambhu Kumar, who alleged that there were several objectionable scenes in the show concerning the wife of the ex-serviceman, which was based on a 2020 complaint lodged by Kumar.
