How To Choose Between Upgrading To The New Apple Iphone 14 Series Or Getting The Iphone 13 Instead?

If you are planning to buy a new iPhone, should you upgrade or should you stick with the iPhone 13? We will be explaining in this post.

Almost all potential iPhone buyers probably have one big question in mind as the iPhone 14 is here. Is it worth the upgrade? We’re taking a look at who should upgrade to the iPhone 14 and what’s different from the iPhone 13. Though we’re focused on a smartphone instead of other consumer electronics this week, we decided to address this particular question because it’s a question that may be of interest to many users. Now let’s see what the iPhone lineup in India currently looks like, their prices, and what changes have been made to them.

The entire lineup of Apple iPhones 14, iPhone 13, and iPhone 12 Is Available In India, Including Prices

This year’s iPhone 13 starts at Rs 79,900 and the iPhone 14 Plus at Rs 89,900. The price is the same as last year’s iPhone 13. It is not surprising that this has a 6.7-inch OLED display, a larger battery, and a similar specification to the iPhone 14. However, the rest of the specifications remain the same.

For 256GB, the iPhone 14 costs Rs 89,900, and for 512GB, it costs Rs 109,900. For 256GB, the iPhone 14 Plus costs Rs 99,900, while for 512GB, it costs Rs 1,19,900. In comparison, the iPhone 13 now starts at Rs 69,900 for the base 128GB model. On Apple’s website, the iPhone 12 is available for Rs 59,900 as well.

It is true that older iPhones are available on Flipkart, Amazon, Croma, Vijay Sales and other websites for a slightly lower price. As the sale season approaches, the older iPhones will likely be offered with more discounts, cashbacks, and exchange offers, which could further lower the price.

Should You Upgrade Your IPhone This Year?

Unless you wish to switch to the Pro series, iPhone 13 users can skip upgrading this year. However, if you’re still on the iPhone X, XS or an even older model, it’s time to upgrade. Although Apple is offering iOS 16 to iPhone 8 and up, many of the features are limited to iPhone XS and above. The signal is that each software update will bring fewer features to older iPhones. It might be time to consider an upgrade if you’ve been holding out.

There is also a possibility of upgrading an iPhone 11 or an iPhone SE 2. The iPhone 11 has been released for three years and will be a four-year-old device by 2023. The iPhone SE 2, launched in 2020, is almost two years old. A newer iPhone can be purchased at a deep discount if you trade in an older iPhone, given Apple’s cashback schemes and exchange offers.

Apple iPhone 14 or iPhone 13: How Have The Specifications Changed?

In both the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 14, the display is the same: 6.1-inch OLED screen with a notch. It has a 2532 x 1170 pixel resolution, 460 PPI, and maximum brightness of 1200 nits. A slight difference between the iPhone 14’s depth and the iPhone 13’s depth is the iPhone 14, which measures 7.80mm, whereas the iPhone 13 is 7.65mm deep. At 172 grams, the iPhone 14 is slightly lighter than the iPhone 13.

iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 both run the same A15 Bionic processor, so the performance difference will be insignificant. However, iPhone 14 has a 5-core GPU, whereas iPhone 13 has a 4-core GPU.

It also looks like the two have a balanced battery, with the iPhone 14 coming out just slightly ahead. The iPhone 14 Plus, of course, has a bigger battery life, with 26 hours of video playback compared to 20 hours on its smaller counterpart. The battery size has not been confirmed by Apple. Bluetooth 5.3 is now supported on the iPhone 14, while Bluetooth 5.0 is on the iPhone 13. Also, the iPhone 14 series in the US does not have physical SIM slots, but rather only an eSIM. There will be a SIM slot on the India units.

There are a lot of differences between the two series when it comes to cameras. While on paper, the iPhone 14 series and iPhone 13 have the same 12MP wide-angle and 12MP ultra-wide angle cameras as well as a 12MP TrueDepth front camera, Apple has made some changes. With its larger 1.9 m pixels and f/1.5 aperture, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus’ main camera should provide more light and better photos. As well as having a better aperture at f/1.9 than f/2.2 on the iPhone 13, the iPhone 14’s front camera also gets autofocus.

In addition, Apple is offering a dedicated ‘Photonic Engine’ for the iPhone 14 series, including the Pro models. In order to enhance iPhone photos’ performance in low light, this new form of computational photography has been developed by Apple. To make low-light photos better on the main, ultra-wide and front cameras, Apple is applying software driven by machine learning and other advancements. The feature isn’t included in the iPhone 13 series.

As part of the Action mode, users will be able to shoot “smooth-looking videos that adjust to significant shakes, motions, and vibrations,” even if they are moving a lot. In addition, Apple claims that the True Tone flash on the iPhone 14 has been improved. It now supports 4K at 30 frames per second, and 4K at 24 frames per second.

Apple iPhone 14 or iPhone 13 or iPhone 14 Plus: Which One Should You Pick?

Due to the similarity of features between the iPhone 14 and 13, this is a difficult question to answer. Its overall performance, camera and battery life are still among the best in the list of premium phones. If you were hoping to get an iPhone for under Rs 60,000, the iPhone 13 is the right choice. The older iPhone 13 also gets better deals during the sale season, cashback offers, etc., and an exchange can result in a lower final price. The price of this could be under Rs 60,000 depending on the deal you are able to claim at the time of purchase.

The iPhone 14 Plus makes more sense if you’re upgrading after a few years and your budget isn’t so rigid. If you’re trading in an older iPhone 12 or iPhone 11 for a new one, the iPhone 14 Plus is a good choice since you’ll get a good exchange price and get a price discount. It’s also got a larger screen and a longer battery life.

For those who don’t need or want a bigger display, the iPhone 14 is your best option. More importantly, if you do not want to pay Rs 90,000 for a new phone and want the latest Apple device, then the iPhone 14 is the choice.
