Aashiqui 3 Will Star Kartik Aaryan, Says It’s A Dream Come True

Kartik Aaryan steps in for Aashiqui 3, the sequel to 1990's Aashiqui starring Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur.

Anurag Basu, known for acclaimed movies like Barfi, Ludo, and Jagga Jasoos, will direct the film’s third installment, Aashiqui 3. Twenty-two years after the original, actor Kartik Aaryan will star in the film’s third installment.

Mahesh Bhatt directed actors Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal in the 1990 original, which was backed by T-Series and Vishesh Films. Mohit Suri directed Aashiqui 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur, an actual box office success in 2013.

In Aashiqui 3, composer Pritam has returned to the franchise, having worked with Basu on films like Gangster, Jagga Jasoos, Barfi, Life in a… Metro.

Having grown up inspired by the original Aashiqui 1, Kartik Aaryan said he has always wanted to play the lead in a musical love story like Aashiqui 3.

“I grew up watching the timeless classic ‘Aashiqui’, and working on ‘Aashiqui 3’ is a dream come true for me. I feel privileged and grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt. The actor said in a statement, “I’ve been a big fan of Anurag Basu’s work and collaborating with him on this one will certainly shape me in many ways.”

“The aim is to carry the legacy forward in the best possible way,” said Anurag Basu, whose last film was Ludo on Netflix. He called the Aashiqui franchise “emotions for the fans” that have remained in their hearts for years. “It’s my first time collaborating with Kartik Aaryan, a filmmaker who is known for his hard work, dedication, grit and determination toward his work.

According to Pritam, Aashiqui 3 is part of T-Series’ ambitious 100-film slate, and will focus on the franchise’s chartbusting soundtrack.

Vishesh Films producer Mukesh Bhatt said that Aashiqui 3 will celebrate love in an unprecedented way. We were very nervous on Aug. 16, 1990, a day before the release of Aashiqui. The next day, records were broken and history was made.

In the presence of Bhushan, Pritam, Anurag, and Kartik, I assure everyone that ‘Aashiqui 3’ will truly be a celebration of love unlike any other,” said Bhatt.

Bhushan Kumar, MD of T-Series and producer of Aashiqui 3, says it is the perfect time to revive the beloved franchise, whose storyline and music are “etched in our hearts”.

Kartik, a true rock star after his massive hits, fits the film perfectly. He is sure to bring a fresh side to it while retaining its true essence, the producer said.
